Digital Advice for SME’s in Lancashire
Hi, I’m Roger England and I’ve been successfully marketing direct-to-consumer businesses for over 25 years. I can now bring my extensive experience and expertise to help you grow your online business in Lancashire and the North West. Here’s a brief overview of my experience to date:
Direct marketing background
After graduating from Durham University, my first foray into marketing was with Citibank’s Diners Club where I ran the Dividends Programme, the UK’s first card loyalty programme. These were the days before the internet was invented but solid direct marketing experience is a great grounding for anyone wanting to grow a direct-to-consumer business in today’s digital world.
Experienced in travel, wine and clothing sectors
As Marketing Manager at Laithwaite’s Wine, I led the company’s highly successful business partner strategy, setting up partnerships with blue-chip brands such as BA, NatWest, American Express, The National Trust. I also led the company’s rebranding to Laithwaites and was responsible for all new customer acquisition.
Whilst Commercial Manager at Thomson Holidays, I launched a merchandising programme targeted at their popular kids clubs, with new products such as the Thomson the Dog cuddly toy and CD’s proving immensely popular!
International marketing
I was enticed back into the wine business (it wasn’t difficult!) to lead Direct Wines’ international expansion into Germany and the USA. I spent two years in Chicago growing the mail order business from $18M to $60M within two years.
Focus on digital marketing
On returning to the UK, I was appointed Commercial Director for Virgin Wines, the UK’s leading online wine merchant before consulting for the high quality, multi-channel clothing specialist Charles Tyrwhitt. After a time running my own wine business (Wine Hound), I decided I’d like to put my experiences to good use by helping those at the start of the online sales journey achieve their ambitions.
